Whether you’re country or city bound for your wedding day, the latest trends in hair styling are universal. We reveal five trends in bridal hair, from fashionable styles to how brides prepare for their pampering session.

Trend #1: Au naturel

Romantic, soft up styles are high in the popularity stakes with brides right now. “Most girls want to look as natural as possible, with softly pinned and romantic finishes,” said Stephanie Griffin from Clare-based salon Vanilla on Main. Curls are part of this look, which adds to the romantic feel according to Robyn Shearer from Clare’s Scandal Hair & Beauty. “Big loopy, loose curls are a big thing at the moment,” she said. “As well as a style called ruching, which is a soft, pulled out braid.”

Trend #2: Statement accessories

Accessories are currently a common alternative to veils. While fresh flowers have not yet returned to popularity, large statement accessories or lace are often chosen by brides. “Many girls are leaning away from veils,” said Steph. “And those that do wear a veil often remove it after the ceremony. With this option, they need to make sure they choose a versatile hair style that works with or without a veil.”

Trend #3: Extensions

Some styles call for more hair, which is where many brides are opting for extensions. They’re either choosing from long-term extensions that will see them beyond their wedding day or extensions that can be pulled out on the wedding night, ready for a care-free honeymoon.

Trend #4: One or two trials

At least one, often two trials in the month before the wedding are an accepted part of preparations, although that’s just for the brides and not as common for bridesmaids. Pinterest and other social media sites mean that brides come to their
hairstyling session with a plethora of inspiration for their look. A combination of styles is common, according to Steph. “They may find three or four styles that they want pieced together,” she said.

Trend #5: Something for the bridesmaids

Brides are considering every last detail when it comes to their wedding makeover,
treating their bridal party to matching robes to wear on the day.
